SETTING OF ARCANE

This post will contain spoilers for Arcane

Arcane is set in the divided world of Piltover and Zaun, two cities that exist side by side but are starkly different in their socio-economic status and environments. Piltover, often referred to as the "City of Progress," is a prosperous, technologically advanced metropolis known for its innovation, wealth, and political influence. It sits above Zaun and is home to the elite, scholars, and inventors who are driven by a pursuit of progress and power.

Zaun, on the other hand, is an undercity located beneath Piltover. It is a gritty, industrial area marked by poverty, pollution, and crime. The people of Zaun live in harsh conditions, often suffering from the toxic fumes emitted by the factories that power Piltover's advancements. Despite these hardships, Zaun is a place of resilience and resourcefulness, where its inhabitants have developed their own forms of innovation, albeit often out of necessity or for survival.

The tension between Piltover and Zaun is a central element of the show's setting, highlighting themes of inequality, class struggle, and the unintended consequences of technological progress. The show explores the complex relationship between these two cities, as well as the conflicts that arise from their vastly different worlds and the people who inhabit them.
